York Model Engineers

Helping to expand your modelling horizons

Covid - 19

Update to the boiler testing scheme during the pandemic is now in the members area.

Dear Members,

As we face a new Lockdown, the Committees latest views are:-

1. Membership – you are all responsible for obeying the law. As most members have keys to the site, we cannot restrict access, but any members who do access the site must comply with the law and the Committees policy. Under lockdown exercise is still allowed and a member can choose the site as a safe place to exercise.

2. Travel – the Government is clearly aiming to minimise travel to what is essential.

3. Vulnerable members – if you fall into this category please follow Government guidelines.

4. Workplaces – the new Rules allow members to attend the Club as a place of work e.g. to work on track or signalling, maintain fences, gardening, or other similar activities. We have recorded that the site is regarded as a workplace which allows maintenance work to be carried out by volunteers. There is a mandatory sign in and out book, so that we know who has been on site.

5. NOTE: Attending the Club to work with another or others on a private engineering project is a social meeting and not work.

6. Organised Events - there are to be no organised events on the Club Site or in the buildings.

7. Contact – it is everyone’s responsibility to minimise contact. The outdoor seating has been refurbished.

8. Dogs – they can carry the virus, so we recommend that no dogs are allowed on site. The only exception are Assistance Dogs, which should not be petted.

9. Hygiene – we have the sanitiser, soap etc. Members should bring their own food, flasks etc. We do not employ anyone to sanitise the area you have been using, so this remains your responsibility.

10. Isolation – if any member needs help getting food or just wants a chat, they should contact a member of the committee who will try and help.

11. Zoom Nights – details to follow.

12. Electronics Access – if you know of a member who does not have electronic access, please let me know so we can ensure they get the information.

We do hope that you and your family are well and look forward to seeing you at the club once the new “normal” has been reached. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me or any member of the Committee.

Kind regards
David Wood

Situated on the outskirts of York, at Dringhouses, York Model Engineers have nearly 5 acres of land with three different miniature railways landscaped in woodland ground alongside the East Coast Main Line. A hidden gem.

The Club provides the facilities and environment for its members to practise and enjoy their model engineering interests and share them with the local community.

Come and run your loco on one of our three tracks:

• Garden railway for 16 mm scale locos and rolling stock on a raised track
• Larger scale locos on 5" and 7 ¼" gauge track at ground level
• Easy-riding elevated track for 2 ½", 3 ½" and 5" gauge locos

Full facilities for safe off-loading and loco preparation are available to make life as easy as possible. And there are always members around to help you.

Membership is just £50 per year, £25 for juniors, and you get all this and more! Join here.

We don’t just play trains.
Our membership comprises model engineers from many disciplines and with many interests, including:

• railway locos
• stationary engines
• clocks
• rolling stock
• garden railways
• miniature boats and ships
• aeronautical modelling

We welcome new members - novices and experts, junior and adult alike - to share our interest of producing engineering marvels of all sorts in miniature or just playing trains. So, why not consider joining us?
