York Model Engineers

Helping to expand your modelling horizons

Visit to Workshop X

Workshop X builds and restores narrow gauge Locomotives. Among others, I understand it is restoring ex-Penrhyn Quarry Avonside Ogwen and it is home to replica North Wales narrow gauge railways single Fairlie Gowrrie.

This is a volunteer group and they work Tuesdays. I am arranging a visit, (date to be agreed).
On a previous trip we used our own transport. The site is not far from M1 junction 31.
Tea and biscuits will be available.
This is a group of volunteers, they do not charge for a visit but I’m sure donations would be grateful received.
This visit will be on a first come first served basis because space is at a premium.
Please let Ted Burdge know if you are interested, either by email, e.burdge321@btinternet.com. Phone 01423 359039. Or in person.

Situated on the outskirts of York, at Dringhouses, York Model Engineers have nearly 5 acres of land with three different miniature railways landscaped in woodland ground alongside the East Coast Main Line. A hidden gem.

The Club provides the facilities and environment for its members to practise and enjoy their model engineering interests and share them with the local community.

Come and run your loco on one of our three tracks:

• Garden railway for 16 mm scale locos and rolling stock on a raised track
• Larger scale locos on 5" and 7 ¼" gauge track at ground level
• Easy-riding elevated track for 2 ½", 3 ½" and 5" gauge locos

Full facilities for safe off-loading and loco preparation are available to make life as easy as possible. And there are always members around to help you.

Membership is just £50 per year, £25 for juniors, and you get all this and more! Join here.

We don’t just play trains.
Our membership comprises model engineers from many disciplines and with many interests, including:

• railway locos
• stationary engines
• clocks
• rolling stock
• garden railways
• miniature boats and ships
• aeronautical modelling

We welcome new members - novices and experts, junior and adult alike - to share our interest of producing engineering marvels of all sorts in miniature or just playing trains. So, why not consider joining us?
